THE SCHOOL – AUCKLAND LANGUAGE CENTRE
Introduction
The Auckland Language Centre, established in 1984, is one of the longest established private English Language Training Establishments in New Zealand. It is NZ Government accredited (NZQA) to teach English to overseas students. It is also a University of Cambridge Registered Teacher Training Centre. The courses, teachers, facilities and resources are re-accredited annually by Cambridge and by NZQA to ensure an on-going high standard of quality and excellence. ALC is one of the founding members of the Federation of Independent English Language Schools of New Zealand (FIELSNZ), an organisation dedicated to offering quality education and maintaining ethical standards of practice in the industry. ALC is a signatory to the Ministry of Education Code of Practice. All this ensures that students receive a high standard of teaching, service and support while they are in New Zealand. The college is located in the centre of Auckland City, next to a park and a church. It is close to inner-city conveniences such as banks, shops, post office, bus stations, restaurants and cafes, while at the same time, located away from busy traffic noise.
Facilities
The Downtown premises include 42 classrooms on six floors of two modern office buildings. Classrooms are spacious and all have natural light. Other facilities include student lounges, a recreation room and a large self access centre offering internet and e-mail access for students, self study materials and library resources.

- General English Full-time, Cambridge, IELTS, TOEFL, EBP = 23 hours per week (5 hours per day)

School Hours
- General English Full-time = Monday-Friday, 9.00 am - 12.15 pm (includes lunch break of 1 hour per day); Monday-Thursday, 1:15-3:15pm.

- 8-12 students per class. Class sizes vary depending on the course and the level.

Airport Pick-Up Service
- School staff greets students at Auckland airport and takes them directly to accommodation or school.
- School staff are always located to the left of the Arrivals hall and will hold an ALC sign with student's name for easy identification

Homestay Accommodation
- $200 per week, payable to ALC ($210 for under 18 yrs)
- Half-board (no lunch) weekdays, full-board on weekends.
- Usually 1 to 2 students per family in single rooms, being of different nationalities
- Some homestay families live within walking or cycling distance to our school
- Most students travel by bus, up to 40 minutes. All buses stop near the school
First Day at ALC
- Welcome & Orientation (9:00AM – 12:15PM)
- Level testing including written examination and interview.
- Introduction to Counsellors.
- College information; map of Auckland city; information on Auckland public transport/ Bus passes; medical insurance for student visa holders; how to open a bank account; location of post office, banks & shops; information about living with a New Zealand host family & living in Auckland; information on weekend sightseeing trips and Tour bookings; important telephone numbers all given in Orientation Pack.

Ski and Snowboard Trip, Rotorua, Sailing weekend, Waitomo Caves – black-water rafting, Horseriding, Weekend trips to Great Barrier Island, Tiri Tiri Island bird reserve, Bay of Islands for swimming with dolphins, etc. Public Transport CostsA weekly bus pass costs between $20 to $35, depending on the number of zones travelled.Cost of LivingLunch costs around $5 - $7 per day + public transport fares if required (see above)
